In June and July 2022 I walked the entire length of the Pennine Way, a 270 mile epic journey starting at Edale, in the Peak District and finishing in Kirk Yetholm on the Scottish Borders. My companion and walking buddy sharing this amazing adventure was Pippa the Podenco, my three year old Spanish rescue doggy.
Having walked sections of the Way before, it was a long time ambition of mine to complete the entire trail end to end. It took a total of 21 days, walking through some of the most beautiful, spectacular and rugged countryside in the UK. I started in the Peak District making my way north, over the High Peak, crossing Saddleworth Moor and into the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Pennine mountains. My route then headed into County Durham and the North Pennines, eventually taking me into the vast and most remote section through Northumberland and the Cheviots, finally finishing just over the Scottish Border at the small village of Kirk Yetholm.
In June 2023 I will be venturing to St. Bees, Cumbria and with the Irish Sea behind me, I'll follow Alfred Wainwright's coast to coast route through the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors to reach Robin Hood's Bay and the North Sea. Although shorter than the Pennine Way, it's a challenging and hilly 190 mile walk over 14 days.
